The Qubeview Spreadsheet Add-In completes the reporting and
analysis suite.
The Add-In allows a spreadsheet user to retrieve a single
value from any cube in the OLAP catalog using QDR (Qualified
Data Reference) style syntax. Once this formula is embedded in
an Excel worksheet, the value will (optionally) re-connect and
update the data whenever it is opened. A scheduler is also
supplied that allows publication of worksheets built using QDR
references to Excel, PDF and HTML pages.
Because the syntax for the QDR function can be quite
lengthy, users can simply “Copy Formula” in Qubeview
Desktop and paste into the Excel worksheet. The formula can
then be re-used in the spreadsheet with cell references to
offer more dynamic report content.
The benefit of building reports in Excel is that the
existing, sometimes complicated, formats of reports can be
retained as can the existing spreadsheet logic. This approach
is useful where reports packs (eg Management Briefing) need to
be populated from OLAP cubes but aren’t necessarily required
on-line. Obviously, the output from these reports can be made
available on an intranet or emailed to recipients.
